Construction of the new "Leninka" will start by 2015

According to the official data, a new building of the Russian State Library will be constructed not earlier than in 2015. Previously it was planned to raise it in 2012.

According to Alexander Visly, the Executive Director of the Russian State Library, money for the new project will be devoted not separately, as it was planned, but according to the Federal Culture of Russia program. 20 billion rubles needed for building and construction work would be allocated no sooner than 2015.

The new building will be constructed next to the old one, and they will be connected by a tunnel. Reading rooms, library collections and a digital library will be situated here. According to the unofficial information, the newly built site will be opened on week-ends and to 11 p.m. during the examination period. At this moment it is impossible for the library, because of its small wages fund. The directorship of the library many times applied to the federal authorities asking to increase the salary schedule, but nothing changed. Alexander Visly hopes that after the start of building and construction work this problem would be solved and the library will receive an additional subsidy directly from the city budget.
